Understanding the credit card calculator
Instead of asking how long a fixed payment takes, this calculator works the other way: pick a payoff deadline and it tells you the monthly payment required to hit it. That framing is powerful for goal-setting deciding to be debt-free in two years turns a vague intention into a specific number you can budget around.
Credit-card APRs are steep, so the interest cost of a slow payoff is large. Shortening the target timeline raises the required payment but sharply cuts total interest. If the payment for your chosen deadline is out of reach, a lower-rate balance-transfer card or a personal loan can make the same payoff far cheaper the higher the APR, the more a rate reduction is worth.
